About
We are a Reconciling in Christ congregation. We welcome all regardless of race or culture, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, relationship status, ethnicity or linguistic heritage, or physical/intellectual/emotional ability. We welcome you regardless of addiction, imprisonment, socio-economic circumstances, or anything else that too often divides us. You are welcome and affirmed here! You are a Child of God!
OUR PRINCIPLES
When we are at our best, you will see us put God first in all that we do by:
Listening to all voices without judgment
Trusting each other’s intention, even when we differ
Remaining open to the guidance of God’s Spirit
Exploring spirituality to experience God’s presence
Extending love and support within and beyond our walls
Sharing table fellowship through the breaking of bread
Seeing ourselves and all others as a Child of God.
OUR PRIORITIES
To live out our purpose and principles we will focus our time and energy to:
- Create various opportunities for all ages to explore spirituality and experience God.
- Deepen relationships within our congregation.
- Recognize and respond to individual needs within our congregation.
- Celebrate the various life experiences of those with whom we gather.
- Integrate the work of the Peace and Justice ministry in all aspects of our congregational life.
- Listen and respond to the needs of our neighborhood, city, and world.
- Support the passions of our members as a means of sharing Christ’s love in our everyday lives.
Sunday Mornings
Worship- Join us every Sunday morning at 10:00am for worship and Holy Communion. Our services feature a variety of music genres, including, traditional hymns, contemporary songs, African American Gospel, Spirituals, jazz, and folk. Sing with our choir that leads the congregation in song and offers special music throughout the year. Ring with the Bell Choir that plays during our Christmas and Easter celebrations.
Our worship follows a traditional Lutheran liturgy and includes contemplative practices, moments of silence, dialogue sermons, and a joyful sharing of the peace. You are welcome to participate at your comfort level, whether from the pew or the pulpit. We especially encourage children to take part in the service, such as carrying the cross, lighting the candles, taking up the offering, or assisting the Pastor.
We look forward to welcoming you and sharing the joy of worship together!
Fellowship- Who doesn’t love to eat?! Join us for coffee and refreshments after our Sunday worship services. Sometimes, we even have a full meal in our fellowship hall. Being at the table together helps us connect on a deeper level in a comfortable way. We always welcome new guests, new conversation partners, and more dishwashers.
Adult Forum- Relax with friends and a cup of coffee after Sunday worship for our Adult Forum discussion. We explore current social issues and global events, sharing factual information, asking questions, and reflecting on how our faith informs our views and our actions. Topics have included: creation care, Israel-Palestine relations, anti-racism work, reproductive rights, immigration, LGBTQ 101, advocacy, and more.
Choir practice- Our choir sings every Sunday from Labor Day to Memorial Day, practicing at 9:00am. They offer a variety of music genres connected to the day’s scriptures, with special offerings for holidays like Advent, Christmas, Holy Week, and Easter. New members, especially bass and tenors, are always welcome! Join us and share your voice!
Worshipping With Children- We love having children in our worship service! Every week, we offer a brief Children’s Sermon during the service. You’ll see our youngest members carrying the cross, lighting candles, taking up the offering, or assisting the Pastor. Whether they’re squirming in their pew or speaking from the pulpit, we view children as a gift and deserving of respect and opportunity.
For families with little ones who need space to wiggle and roam, we have a Children’s Loft overlooking the sanctuary. The loft has quiet toys and books for children, as well as bulletins and hymnals for parents, so everyone can participate and be included in the service.
We look forward to welcoming you and your family!
Godly Play- All kids are invited to Godly Play after Sunday worship! Our Montessori-based Sunday School invites children to explore Biblical stories and church history through the opening statement, “I wonder…”. This engaging approach helps your child connect the stories to their own understanding of the world and their faith, tapping into their innate spiritual depth and encountering God in all they do.
Through parables, sacred stories, and liturgical action presentations, the wonder of God is opened. The Godly Play method focuses clearly and deeply on the child’s spirituality. This evolves, enhances, supports, and enlarges the quality of relationships in other activities for children and their families.
With Godly Play, we tell Bible stories to children and encourage them to enter into the stories. This helps them wonder and relate them to their personal experiences.
One of the goals of Godly Play is to create a safe space for children. Here, ideas, opinions, and gifts are deeply respected. Everything in the worship education center is designed for children to use and enjoy.
Consider becoming a Godly Play Storyteller or Doorkeeper after the service on Sundays. Find out more at the Godly Play Foundation lay https://www.godlyplayfoundation.org/
